Revitalization Information: Friday, April 29

Welcome:

This message is to welcome and inspire you to attend the 2022 conference at the beautiful Oregon Garden in Silverton, Oregon, April 29-May 1.

The steering committee has been hard at work to plan a memorable and informative conference.  I would like to give a “shout out” to the hard-working members of the committee.  A special thank you to Dana Murphy and Kate Kelleher and their members of the EEC their hard work in providing workshop presenters and keynote speakers. A special thank you to your Vice President Bonita Fillmore for heading the steering committee and organizing this conference for our members.

Please join us Friday evening for an informal get together with games and social.  Be aware there will be a photo booth to have fun having pictures with sisters and family.

Saturday, the EEC has secured an outstanding opening session keynote speaker that will leave us with information for us to take away for rest of the conference. Our international guest will be the Northwest Regional Director Barbara Clausen who will be holding a round table discussion to let us know “what’s up” in DKG International and a what is happening at the International Convention July 13-17 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
PDUs will be provided for the keynote speakers, panel, round table, and workshops with diverse topics.

As this is a conference it is more relaxed and not formal.  Food will be plentiful with start the day at the resort’s breakfast buffet included with your room.  If you aren’t staying at the resort, you can buy the breakfast and join your friends.  There will be an awards luncheon which will be a buffet of barbecue cuisine and a casual dressy  (not formal) dinner with a Northwestern flair. A reception will follow for incoming Presidents and the international guest.

Sunday morning, we honor our sisters who are no longer with us this year during the White Rose Ceremony.  Followed by a business meeting after which will all say our goodbyes and see you next time.

Please come and join the fun, conversations and laughs.
Register now! Join in the fun!

I will see you soon,
Brenda Jensen
Oregon State Organization President

Notes to Newcomers

Refresher for the rest of us!

To help make your first Oregon State Organization Conference a pleasant and comfortable experience, the following tips, and information are provided.  If you have questions about anything more, please ask a chapter sister who has attended a previous conference.  At conference, there will be hostesses happy to answer your questions.

Have a memorable experience that will support your personal and professional growth as a key woman educator!

WHY SHOULD BUSY TEACHERS ATTEND CONFERENCE?
Many outstanding professional and personal workshops are being planned along with two keynote speakers.  Teachers will have the opportunity to earn 5 Professional Development Units that come with your convention registration cost.

ASSIGNED SEATING: The only events with assigned seating are at meals. Your table assignment will be designated on your meal ticket. If there is no designation, you may choose your own table. If there is a head table, nameplates will be placed for those assignments.

DRESS CODE: For workshops and meetings most attendees wear business casual clothing. The Rose Banquet is usually more formal and most members and guests dress accordingly.  Key pins and badges are worn to all events, except for the Rose Banquet when many members choose to not wear key pins or nametags in order to protect their finer clothing.

Friday Night’s Events:
Casual clothes are the norm for Friday night, as many go to the events directly after arriving, often after a long road trip. This will be a Game Night with many options to have fun with fellow members.

HOSPITALITY ROOM:
Take some time to visit the hospitality room and visit the women there. It will be open Friday afternoon and again for a reception after the Saturday night banquet.

LUNCHEON TIPS:
Don't eat your dessert until the ceremonial birthday candle has been lit and the birthday song is sung.  Envelopes are on the table during the luncheon program to collect donations for a cause chosen by the president. Individuals and/or chapters may put cash or checks into these envelopes. Indicate which fund your money should go to, if you have a preference. Often First-Timers are recognized at this function, so be prepared to be recognized as a group.

NAME TAGS & MEAL TICKETS
Name tags are usually on an elastic string and worn on the neck.  All participants need to wear their official name tags for on-site activities. While they need not be worn if you are away from the hotel, it is a nice advertisement for DKG to alert businesses and local citizens to the reason you are visiting The Oregon Gardens.  Meal tickets will be collected at each meal and are conveniently stowed behind your name tag. Remember to bring your banquet ticket with you, as you probably will not be wearing your name tag for that event.

OFFICIAL PINS:
Please wear your key pin and name tag to convention functions. The key pin is normally worn on the left side, with nothing above it. A chapter president's pin is worn directly beneath the key pin.  Ribbon badges are available for purchase and are convenient for protecting clothing. Check out the badge options on the Unique Boutique website.

REGISTRATION/CHECK IN
You must register to participate. Pick up your conference meal tickets, name badge and program at the conference registration table.  (This is not to be confused with the hotel registration desk!)  We encourage you to bring a bag to the conference to carry registration materials and other items you might collect.

TIMING:  It's a good idea to arrive at events a few minutes early to be seated before the presider begins.  Personnel try to keep things moving and on schedule, especially at workshops.

(See Notes To Newcomers - Below)
The Conference Steering Committee has been digging deep to find ways to make this first post COVID conference exciting and safe for all participants. These decisions and facts are things you need to know.
  • To keep those attending safe and protecting their families at home, the committee voted to require proof of COVID vaccinations or a negative test within 36 hours of the conference. Proof will be checked at the registration table.
  • Masks will be available.
  • In addition to the standard registration, we are offering a 1-day registration option for Saturday that is available to both members and non-members.
  • There is a flyer to go with the 1-day registration form that will be emailed to Chapter Presidents and available on the convention website. Please give them to any non-member teachers you know and post/share them in your local school. This is a great opportunity to invite working teachers to enjoy our wonderful organization.
  • There is an option to sign up for a delayed online access to the conference that will cover the keynote speakers, the panel discussion “We the People: United in Learning” and the White Rose Ceremony. If you choose this option, these presentations will be posted on our website and will require a password. The password with directions will be emailed to you by March 15th. PDUs will be available for this also.
  • Hotel rooms are in smaller units away from the main building and the meeting area in the Resort. So, expect some walking.
  • At the Resort, hotel guests receive a complimentary breakfast, so we have not scheduled breakfast as a separate meeting. If you want to purchase breakfast because you aren’t staying there, it is $12.00.
  • There is a group fee of $8.00 available to tour the Oregon Garden. It must be paid at least 1 week in advance with a single check or charge for the group. So, if you want to take advantage of this, your registration should be sent 2 weeks before the conference. There is a shuttle to tour the garden which costs $3.00 on a first come, first served basis with no reservations or reductions in the fee and is paid in the Garden. We will get individual admission tickets that can be used anytime you have time when it is open on the weekend. Oregon Garden is open from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
  • There are no group tours planned. The Gordon House by Frank Lloyd Wright is very close to the Resort. Tours are at noon, 1 p.m. & 2 p.m., Friday, Saturday, & Sunday. Admission is $20.00 on-your-own arrangement.
  • Friday evening is Game Night! Come have some fun with us!
  • Friday dinner is on your own. Local restaurant information will be available. There is also a restaurant at the resort. Connect with your DKG friends and plan a cozy visit.

We are excited about the workshops and opportunities we have arranged for this Conference. Because it is a Conference and not a Convention, we have tried to build in some fun activities and a chance to have some time with your DKG sisters and friends to catch up. We hope you will agree at the end of our Cultivating Learning Conference. See you soon!
