Logistics: What You Need To Know
  • Appoint or elect a chair and a supporting committee for your chapter’s basket.
  • Find a big, attractive basket. (Ask your members if they have one to donate!)
  • Select a theme for your basket. Just FYI, the Convention theme is Empowering Independence.
  • Send a request to your members asking for theme-appropriate items to be donated or for dollars to be donated to supply anything missing.
  • Set a date for items to be brought to a designated meeting or delivered to a committee member. Ask if someone will offer to pick items up, that might facilitate the process.
  • Appoint an artistic person to make the basket “enticing and pretty,” so it attracts lots of ticket buyers.
  • Type a list of all the contents and total the value of the whole basket. See the suggested format   below.
  • On Friday, April 28 or Saturday, April 29, deliver your basket to the room chosen (this is “TBA” at present) at the Independence Hotel. Hours will be posted and will be in your convention schedule.
  • Come buy a ticket or several for yourself to win a basket of treasures while you raise funds for ____________________________________????
  • If you win a basket, let the chapter know how much you appreciated their thoughtful preparation of the items.

Ideas

For ideas, check Pinterest™ or look online:  Search for “auction baskets,”  “baskets for fund raising,” or “unique gift baskets.” Something may really make your chapter excited. Ideas that I thought were special when I did a search are listed below:
  • Choose themes that appeal to the different age levels of DKG members.
    • Baby baskets for young mothers that include supplies, toys, special treats, books, or videos.
    • Baskets with all kinds of little things for the organization of classrooms or homes.
    • “Grandmother baskets” filled with fun ideas and things for a Grandma to do with her grandchildren.
    • Baskets for families who love games. There are tons of unique games for all ages. Puzzles are also all the rage now. They can be done alone or with friends.
  • Show off or attract with baskets focused on unique or regional foods and or drink. If you live in wine country, perhaps bottles of great wines paired with some regional foods.
  • Food baskets with specialty foods from your region
  • A beautiful basket full of  fresh produce from a local farm or market. Choose only items which would keep for a day or two without refrigeration.
  • Special food baskets that pair food with great books or how-to recipe books.
  • Food baskets with one- or two-food themes: chocolates, cheeses, specialty breads, crackers, dried fruits, nuts, jams, jellies, pickles, olives, etc.
  • Baskets for artists, crafters, or writers:  Provide materials, small gift cards, or inspiring books on the subject.
  • Collectible items or items for a specific holiday have been hits in other years.
  • Travel baskets can be fun too: books, small travel guides, maps, unique items for taking along:  small packable snack foods, small sun screen tube, tour tips.
  • Tickets to an event in Oregon that would be engaging and valuable or tickets to a local garden, museum, concert, or outdoor event.
